Lawyers Provide Accutane Lawsuit Advice

Accutane was a popular and highly effective acne medication that was used by a number of people worldwide to treat especially severe cases of acne. Patients who were meant to use Accutane had cases of acne that were not affected by normal, less severe treatments including topical ointments and pills. It helped a significant number of its users clear their skin and get their lives back on track. Bad skin can be detrimental to self-esteem and it can get the wrong message across about a person. So why was the seemingly booming drug yanked from shelves by its manufacturer, Hoffman-La Roche, in 2009?

Many people have some idea— Accutane side effects have been linked to a number of serious gastrointestinal conditions, as well as depression and severe birth defects. The gastrointestinal conditions linked with Accutane are usually forms of inflammatory bowel syndrome— accutane crohns disease and Accutane ulcerative colitis being the most common.
These conditions almost always follow a patient for the rest of his or her life, causing symptoms like bloody diarrhea or severe pain as well as possible hospitalizations and surgeries. Some patients need surgery to remove parts of their colon and rectum in order to alleviate some symptoms or intestinal blockages. Symptoms of inflammatory bowel diseases can be embarrassing, uncomfortable, and severely painful—making life difficult for those who suffer from the disease.

Accutane cases have been transferred to the multidistrict litigation, or MDL, taking place in the Middle District Court of Florida in Tampa. Pre-trial processes will take place here, combining the pretrial processes in similar cases in order to speed up litigation, which could otherwise take a number of years. After pretrial processes are complete, cases may be remanded or sent back to the courts from which they came.

Many people were turning to Accutane as a tool to help alleviate the possible social embarrassment and other serious consequences of severe acne problems. Instead, they got serious gastrointestinal diseases—which can prevent some of them from working, can affect lives and relationships, and can have a serious impact on a patient. It is no wonder, then, that most patients are looking to gain some kind of financial damages from Hoffman-La Roche—these could help pay off medical bills and be the foundation they need for beginning with a fresh start.
